“EES” is short for Environmental Energy Systems. We have over 3 decades of experience in lighting and energy management. Founder Jacek Helenowski is a developer/entrepreneur with diverse, complementary interests including horticultural lighting. His first grow lamp projects, in the late 1980s, were under confidential contract with a European-based consortium.

Vibra-gro™ is the result of a fresh 4-year project. Specifically focused on creating the ideal cannabis grow light system.

Square 1 Precision Lighting

Core expertise resides in the technology of cathode and phosphor lighting. In addition to horticultural applications, there have been an abundance of applications in architectural lighting.

In the 1990s, Helenowski founded Square 1 Precision Lighting, a design/build/installation company for commercial, industrial, and residential applications. Square 1 has become the nation’s premiere source for Architectural Cold Cathode lighting as well as originator of several unique electrical devices and light fixtures.  Helenowski holds a dozen patents. Much of Square 1’s work is custom-built.

Over the decades, Square 1 has worked on many high-visibility, prestigious projects. Including for public spaces, hospitals, theaters, churches, casinos, hotels, and city landmark buildings. Artists such as Bruce Nauman and James Turrell collaborated with Square 1 for execution of their illuminated work. The Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation entrusts their lighting restoration needs to Square 1 as well.

American Pride

Perhaps the most newsworthy project has been a 3-story tall, 50-foot wide illuminated United States flag. Initiated as a 9/11 memorial, it became the official illuminated symbol of the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics and Paralympics. Estimated to have been seen by one-quarter of the people in the world.

LEED Platinum Residence

Helenowski’s personal residence is another passionate example. A total refurbishment of a 1950s structure, it received the highest LEED point score ever upon its completion in 2010. “The idea for the house was, ‘Practice what you preach.’ I believe in sustainability and in using locally-made, sustainable products. That said, the greenest building in the world is a mud hut, but do you want to live that way? I wanted a modern, comfortable, sustainable building. The house was a weekend and weeknight project. It took 12 years from start of research to finish.” -Jacek Helenowski
